Craft sticks and playdough!

Updated: Jul 19, 2023

Craft sticks and playdough are a super fun combination for preschoolers. If you've read my blog in the past you know I'm all about process based art. We do a lot of art at our house that is focused on the process with no worries about the finished product. This is when creativity blossoms! Playdough and craft sticks make for the perfect process experience.

My 4.5 year old made glasses out of the playdough lids.

Instructions: Just set out the craft sticks and playdough and let your kids create! If your kids are small you may want to show them how to attach two craft sticks by pinching a piece of playdough around the ends.

I keep craft sticks in this little container so they are easily accessible and can be used over and over again.

My kids love these colorful craft sticks. If you want to keep the floor clean and the mess contained have them work on top of a piece of waxed paper.

You could also lay out some matchbox cars or other small toys that could be worked into the experience.

My 3 year old made a garage for his matchbox car.

Give craft sticks and playdough a try. Set up and clean up is super easy, and your kids will love it! If you want more ideas on how to play with playdough check out my blogpost called Playdough Play.
